I'm happy to offer this extra-ordinary reference guide for building retro furniture. The hardcover book is titled Anatomy of Contemporary Furniture. By John G. Shea. Copyright 1965, 1973, sixteenth printing. 191 pages.
The book was first published in the mid 60s, then updated in the mid 70s. The book describes general contemporary design, with a black and white pictorial guide to some of the leading furniture designers, such as Eames, Nelson, Bertoia and Saarinen. Manufacturers like Herman Miller and Knoll are also represented.
There is a chapter which presents measured drawings for superb functional contemporary pieces from Heywood-Wakefield.
The largest part of the book is a detailed DIY guide to building your own modern furniture from the author's original designs. The book gives step-by-step photo sequences and design plans. Assembling, installing, arranging and finishing are also detailed. There's a nice chapter on simplified methods for do-it-yourself upholstering.
Please see scans for sample projects; click on image to enlarge.
The book is in good condition, with a dust jacket in fair condition. Inside pages are clean and tight.
I do have other design books for sale. Please take a look.
